# Spending controls

Open **project Settings → Spending**. Review the monthly usage and configured limit before changing on-demand spending.



## Modes

| Mode      | Behavior                                                                              |
| --------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Disabled  | On-demand usage is disabled; exhausting the included allocation can pause service.    |
| Fixed     | On-demand spending is bounded by the configured monthly limit.                        |
| Unlimited | Removes that fixed on-demand limit; review the cost implications before selecting it. |

The service's restriction message identifies the recovery action. A fixed-limit pause calls for reviewing the monthly limit. A disabled-on-demand pause calls for enabling an appropriate mode or waiting for the allocation reset. Manually paused projects are restored from General settings instead.

## Confirm recovery

After the appropriate setting change, check the project's restriction banner and retry a small authorized read. If writes remain blocked, distinguish a Free read-only restriction from a paused project. See [project lifecycle](/docs/dashboard/project-lifecycle).

These controls differ from [AI credit auto-reload](/docs/dashboard/billing/ai-credits). Review both when diagnosing AI failures. A higher limit permits additional consumption; it does not fix a failing workflow or repeated request loop.
